BWH Expertise Called Upon in the Wake of the Storm
Bingham's Coordination is Pivotal to Crisis Response
Staff Offer an Outpouring of Generosity and Compassion
Staff immediately pulled together relief efforts that enabled all BWHers to respond to the devastation in the Gulf Coast. The Hurricane Relief Fund Drive offered staff an important opportunity to pitch in and make a difference.
As of Thursday morning, the staff-coordinated Hurricane Relief Fund Drive raised about $7,000 in support of the American Red Cross relief efforts.
“There's been a huge outpouring of generosity and compassion,” said Wendy Martinez, Patient/Family Relations representative, who is spearheading the drive modeled after a similar fundraising effort following the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami.
Collection boxes were stationed outside the BWH Cafeteria and at 850 Boylston St. for anyone wishing to donate cash or checks. Pat Bruno of Pat's Place also set up a donation jar for restaurant patrons to contribute to Red Cross relief efforts. “We're providing an avenue to make it easier for folks to donate,” said Martinez.
“It gives you a sense of pride to donate as part of a larger team,” said Rose Cannistraro, executive assistant to Chief Operating Officer Kate Walsh.
“We're pulling together as a team through BWH,” Martinez agreed.
